There are different ways of whitening your teeth. You can use the strips dipped in a special solution, or brush your teeth with the help of a special formula prepared by dental experts. There are many people who opt for having their teeth bleached by a dentist. There are others who go for a total makeover for their set of teeth.

Let us first examine the reason which leads to the discoloration of the enamel, the hard substance covering the exposed part of the tooth. The culprits are coffee, tea, aerated drinks, usage of tobacco products, and tooth injury. The teeth whitening toothpastes are reasonably priced and they are recommended for removal of pale yellowish-brown stains of coffee and tea. The people who have already gotten professional teeth whitening bleaching sessions are able to see visible results with tooth whitening tooth pastes.

These toothpastes contain a mixture of a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Hydrogen peroxide, an active ingredient in teeth whitening products, is just one percent in an over-the-counter tooth whitening paste. There are some over the counter whitening kits that contain 10 to 15 percent hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide solution is 35 percent in power bleach solutions prescribed by dentists.

You can also buy home bleaching kits from any drugstore. These kits consist of a gel based solution and a mouth tray. All you have to do is soak your teeth in the solution for ten to twelve minutes. If you decide to buy a home bleaching kit, you must follow the instructions carefully. It is better to use the home whitening system recommended by your dentist rather than buy an over the counter brand, because your dentist will be able to follow up on your progress.

Veneers are the most recommended method of permanent teeth whitening. They are made of porcelain and attached to the tooth. Though veneer whitening is expensive, it is considered good because of the permanency factor.  Always make it a point to act on your dentist’s advice before buying a teeth whitening product.
